Musical Encounters brings Sphinx artists into underserved communities around the country to serve as ambassadors of classical music to students and families. In conjunction with Sphinx Virtuosi Tour performances, Sphinx artists visit classrooms, music programs, and community centers, where they perform and discuss familiar music and works by composers of color followed by a question and answer session.  Students learn about the artists’ instruments, techniques used in the performance, why the artists began to play, and most importantly, how they might begin playing a string instrument.
