Artist Development - Instrument Fund | |||||||||
ARTIST DEVELOPMENT
|
One of the biggest obstacles in a career of a young aspiring musician is
access to a quality instrument. As such, the Sphinx Instrument Fund was
established in 2000 with the purpose of providing Sphinx Semi-Finalists
who demonstrate a need with high quality instruments for use for one
year following their participation in the competition. Sphinx
collaborates with Instrument Sponsors who donate the instrument for use
by a Semi-Finalist for at least one year to the fund. Recipients are
required to attend an instrument care session, and all instruments in
the fund are professionally maintained by each maker or dealer. Current
family of Instrument Fund Sponsors includes: Gradoux-Matt Rare Violins, David Kerr Violins, SHAR
Fine Instruments, Psarianos Violins, Geoffrey
Ovington Violins, William Harris Lee, Garza Violins, Giovanni Gammuto Violins, David Cox Violins, Susan Rose, and Alfred Coren. In 2002, Geoffrey Ovington permanently donated a beautiful violin to the Sphinx Organization, and in 2003, the Instrument Fund received a cello donated by Susan Rose, and a violin donated by Alfred Coren.
