What is School Dayz?
Harlem Quartet School Dayz constitutes a series of educational residencies throughout elementary schools within the city of New York. In the 2007-2008 school year the Harlem Quartet, feauturing all First Place Laureates of the Sphinx Competition, will visit elementary schools in New York City. This in-school program involves extended exposure of students to works by minority composers, extensive question and answer sessions, and a sense of continuity provided by a return session. This provides students with the opportunity to learn more about the Laureate’s instrument, techniques used, why he/she began to play, and most importantly, how they might begin playing a string instrument.
