The Sphinx Preparatory Music Institute, made possible through leadership support from the Ford Motor Company Fund, offers classes to Detroit students in music history, music theory/ear training and instrumental performance for ten Saturdays during both fall and winter semesters (20 weeks total). It serves string, woodwind, brass, percussion and piano instrumentalists, ages 11-18, with a focus on middle school students. The program is designed to address the needs of students in pursuit of music studies at beginning thru advanced levels who lack access to steady, balanced musical training.
