The Sphinx Competition offers young Black and Latino classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with established professional musicians in a competition setting. Learn more about this annual event here.

FINALS CONCERT

The Finals Concert features the Senior Division finalists accompanied by the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor Thomas Wilkins.

In addition, the Sphinx Organization and the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club are pleased to announce a partnership in presenting a newly composed work titled “The Seven Last Words of the Unarmed” by composer Joel Thompson. This commission is made possible in part with the support of Linda and Stuart Nelson.

This is a powerful multi-movement work honoring the lives of Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Kenneth Chamberlain, Amadou Diallo, and John Crawford. Read more…
