Jorge Cordoba

Mexican composer, born December 15, 1953.


Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Jorge Córdoba received most of his formal music education at the Conservatorio Nacional de México; he later traveled throughout Spain, Hungary, the USA, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic to continue his conducting and composition studies.

He has served as the composer-in-residence at Brandon University (Manitoba, Canada) and has worked as an artistic director for many beloved choirs throughout Mexico. Córdoba has also had the opportunity to conduct several well-known instrumental groups, including the Symphonic Orchestra of Oaxaca, the National University of Mexico’s Symphonic Orchestra and Percussion Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of Mexico City.

In 2003, he earned First Place honors in the 4th annual National Choral Composition Contest, he won First Place again in 2005. Córdoba has also received a Bartók recognition and the Kodaly Medal from the Hungarian government. In addition to his musical endeavors, Córdoba coordinates and hosts the “Horizontes de Nuestra Música” radio program, which is broadcast in Mexico.
