Megan Delatour

Artistic Planner | Inner City Youth Orchestra of New York

Ms. Delatour has distinguished herself as an arts administrator, educator, and artistic planner committed to expanding equitable access to high-level music education. As a member of the Interschool Orchestras of New York’s team, she established a scholarship initiative that broadened participation for students from El Sistema–inspired programs by creating full-tuition opportunities for 15 young violists and cellists to audition for and perform with ISO. In her capacity as Artistic Planner, she has led the commissioning of new works by underrepresented composers across the diaspora and developed a multi-level collaborative composition to be performed by all ISO ensembles at Carnegie Hall. She further strengthened ISO’s mission by cultivating partnerships that provide college-readiness support and audition-preparation resources for aspiring young musicians.

Ms. Delatour holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Queens College and a Master of Music in Music Education from Boston University, where her scholarly work focused on Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. In partnership with Dr. Susan Davis, she will present on culturally responsive concert programming and youth engagement at the NYSSMA Winter Conference 2024.

She currently serves as the Orchestra Director of Talent Unlimited High School and the Summer Arts Institute. At Talent Unlimited, her program centers on empowering young musicians of color by providing platforms for artistic excellence and cultivating the tools to use music as a medium for social change. Through partnerships with music-justice organizations such as Sound Off: Music for Bail and Protestra, she engages students in projects that activate youth agency, promote civic engagement, and use musical performance as a vehicle for advocacy and reform.

Ms. Delatour also serves as Artistic Director of the Interschool Orchestras of New York and as Artistic Planner and Co-Conductor of ICYONY, the Brooklyn-based sister program to the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA), where she continues to expand opportunities for young musicians through innovative programming and community-centered artistic initiatives.
