Levi Powe


Levi Powe, age 19, is a classical cellist from Tucson Arizona. He has studied cello for 16 years, as well as music composition for 6 years. He currently studies with Dr. Theodore Buchholz, and is a sophomore at the University of Arizona. He has won first place in the Tucson Symphony Concerto Competition, and the Civic Orchestra Concerto Competition; he has placed in the Southern Arizona Symphony Concerto Competition, and was a Finalist in the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Competition.

Levi was selected as the 2018 First Place Junior Division Laureate of the Sphinx Competition. He has participated in masterclasses with Peter Anderegg, of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, Mary Ann Ramos, Northern Arizona University faculty, Joshua Roman, currently a soloist, and Amit Peled, of The Peabody Institute.

Levi has performed with New World Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Tucson, the Tucson Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, and The Sphinx Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he was a participant of National Youth Orchestra 2 by Carnegie Hall, in its inaugural season. Levi plays in a string trio with his two sisters, who are both violinists. They have performed for numerous organizations, such as the United States Air Force, the Tucson Symphony’s Just for Kids concerts, and many others.

Levi is currently a sophomore at the University of Arizona, studying for Business. He is a black belt in karate, likes to read, and enjoys fishing, hunting, cubing and photography.
