BLACK HISTORY MONTH SERIES

Throughout the year, Sphinx works to empower the voices of our 800+ alumni and transform lives through the power of diversity in the arts. During the month of February 2022 and in honor of Black History Month, we put a spotlight on the talents of our artists across our social media platforms. Enjoy a recap of this series by the artists who are shaping the landscape of classical music.

THE ILLUMINATE SERIES

The Illuminate video series features conversations from luminaries in the classical music world and is available on Sphinx's YouTube channel. The series was created in partnership with and curated by saxophonist Steven Banks, violinist Randall Goosby, and flutist Anthony Trionfo.

CREATING IN COLOR

Creating In Color is a meeting place for BIPOC who work in music in the theatre. This includes all musical positions: musical directors, arrangers, pit and session musicians, audio engineers, composers, lyricists, copyists, rehearsal pianists, programmers, etc. Anyone who is a person of color who is involved in the creation of music for the theatre is welcome.

MUSAIC

MUSAIC is a collaborative digital initiative between the New World Symphony, Cleveland Institute of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, and others — is an online community of classical musicians and continuously updated video library curated by America’s Orchestral Academy. Just as teachers have traditionally passed down knowledge to their students, MUSAIC provides access to classical music instruction and conversations for students and performers alike.

IDAGIO

IDAGIO has developed a proprietary data model and their own unique technological solution to structure and display classical music in a clear, clean way. Users, musicians, and labels alike affirm that IDAGIO has developed the very best interface for classical music.

BERLINER PHILHARMONIKER DIGITAL CONCERT HALL

There are over 600 orchestral concerts from the Berliner Philharmoniker in the Digital Concert Hall from more than ten years, including 15 concerts with the new chief conductor Kirill Petrenko.
