José Luis Campana

Argentinian composer, born August 24, 1949.


José Luis Campana was born on August 24th, 1949, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Alongside his composition studies with Jacabo Ficher (1968-1975), Campana studied psychology at the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires, where he graduated in 1974. Campana was awarded a bursary from the French government in 1979 to finish his studies as a composer with Ivo Malec in Paris, where he also studied analysis with Betsy Jolas and electronic techniques with Guy Reibel and Pierre Chauffeur. Between 1986-1992, Campana was a professor of analysis and interpretation of contemporary music at the Paris Conservatory. In 1993, he founded ARCEMA, a modern music workshop, at the Paris Conservatory; he was their artistic director until 2008. Campana has won many awards for his composition.
